新しくやってきた赤ちゃんに大好きなおかあさんのおひざを奪われてしまった切ない気持ちが切々と書かれる一方で、赤ちゃんにおかあさんを貸してあげるよというやさしい気持ちが感じられます。作品内では猫の気持ちとして書かれていますが、下の子供が生まれた上の子供の気持ちが伝わる良作です。

また、挿絵の猫の表情が豊かで猫好きのための絵本としても良いですね。

お母さんのひざに抱っこされるのが大好きだった猫は、
生まれたばかりの赤ちゃんにその居心地の良い場所を取られてしまいます。
何だか面白くない猫はいろんな思いで赤ちゃんを見つめます。
ちょっとお姉ちゃん振ってみたりしても、やっぱりお母さんに甘えたい・・・。
ちょうど兄弟姉妹の上の子の気持ちと重なります。

やわらかいパステルカラーの色使いが、春の陽だまりのようです。
お母さんを見上げる切なそうな猫の表情は、ドキッさせられました。
是非、上のお子さんをひざの上に抱いて、読んであげてほしいと思います。

いつも下の子に優しいお兄ちゃん、お姉ちゃんはきっとこんな気持ちなんだ。と、気付かされた絵本でした。読み終わったあと、思わず子どもたちを抱きしめたくなる一冊です。お父さん、お母さんにぜひ読んでほしい！
