電車（プラレール）が大好きな３歳の息子に買ったところ、
やはり電車好きな息子の親友がいたく気に入って、
彼が遊びに来る度に２人に向かって読み聞かせをしています。
文章は短め、リズミカルで読みやすいけど、
なんといっても子供が喜ぶのは「やまがあった　どうする？」
「かわがあった　どうする？」などの問いかけ。
友達と競い合ってアイディアを言ってページをめくり、
当たっているのを確認してまた喜んで、の繰り返し。
内容的には簡単で１-２歳でも楽しく聞いていられるけど、
３-４歳になると親の一方的な読み聞かせではなく、
双方向のコミュニケーションができて楽しいです。

各ページで子供たちや動物の表情などをじっくり楽しんだら、
♪線路は続く♪の節で読んであげてください。
字あまりで早口になるところもありますが、
けっこううまくおさまります。
子供たちも大喜びで、今日は読んでとか今日は歌ってと
リクエストしてくれます。

枕木を敷き、線路を引いて段々鉄道としての線路が出来上がっていく様は物を一から作り上げていく喜びを感じる。
子供にも何度も読んでをせがまれ、また背景も文にはないところでペンキと塗っている様やトンネル堀の残土運びなどわかりやすい絵もあり絵本の中身の幅が広がります。
