1920年代と50年代をピークに、美剣士のイラストで『少年倶楽部』時代の少年たちを熱狂させた細密ペン画の作品580点を、大正から昭和40年代まで10年ごとに区分して収録する。


著者略歴 (「BOOK著者紹介情報」より)

伊藤 彦造
明治37年(1904)2月16日、大分県大分市に生まれる。大正4年(1915)大阪御津尋常小学校卒業。大正5年(1916)東京朝日新聞社に給仕兼記者見習いとして入社。仕事に励むかたわら、絵の修業を始める。大正6年(1917)文展に日本画「或る日」を出品、入選する。大正14年(1925)1月、『大阪朝日新聞』の「黎明」(番匠谷英一作、1~3月)の挿絵を描き、挿絵画家としてデビュー。平成16年(2004)9月9日、生涯を閉じる(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

伊藤彦造氏は2004年に100歳の天寿を全うされたそうです。ご冥福をお祈り致します。
高畠華宵は再ブームのようで、数年前から画集が出回ってましたね。それを横目で見ながら、古本屋で伊藤彦造の画集を探したりしてましたが（見つけましたが高かった）、ついに河出書房新社様がこうして画集を出して下さいました。
戦時中には陸軍からの依頼で国威発揚画なども描いてらっしゃったそうです。画風を見ればなんとなく納得しますね。エロチックな気迫に満ちた画風。血とエロスというか。
一時、月岡芳年の武者絵や歴史絵の画集を探していて、どうやらないらしいと知った時、戦後、過去の歴史画が抹殺されたのではないか、と疑心暗鬼というか妄想というか、もしかしたら真実かもしれないのですが、まぁとにかく一時それについて調べようと思ったことがあるのですが、そのままです。どなたか教えて頂けたら。
ともあれついに登場した貴重な画集です。河出書房新社様、有難う！

帯に「不世出ペン画挿絵の巨匠･神技！」とありますが、煽りではありません。

約十年、お金なかったりタイミング逃したり、改版前のも買えなかったのがやっと手に入った！

昭和初期〜45年までの作者が少年冒険誌に挿絵として、主に付けペンでケント紙に描いた挿絵の数々が収録されています。

生臭さと色気と構図の妙と画力と綿密精緻な書き込みと躍動感が、掛け算でえらいことになっています。

私の中では絵の神の中のひとりです。

にしても、簡単なあらすじしか書かれてないけどその挿絵してる物語。
一度読んでみたいものです。
