東京大学の近く、地下鉄千代田線の「根津」に高畠華宵の原画が多く所蔵され
ている「弥生美術館」があります。

以前から疑問に思っていたのですが、印刷された、高畠華宵の作品は霞が掛かった
様に印刷されているものが多いのです。
その訳を、先日「弥生美術館」で原画を見て理解しました。
原画のサイズが葉書、やＡ５サイズで描かれているのです。正直びっくりしました。
現在では、大きなサイズで描き、製版する際「縮小」するのが普通ですが、
この時代の絵師はそのままのサイズで描いていたのです。
どうりで現在のＡ４サイズで印刷すれば、霞が掛かった様になる訳です。
高畠華宵の作品を愛する方「弥生美術館」で原画をみて戴きたく、文を寄せさせて
戴きました。

最近、アンティーク着物のブームもあってか、静かな人気をよんでいる高畠華宵の美少女画を集めています。

三白眼の夢見心地なまなざしの美少女たちが、着物or洋装でその時代の最先端のお洒落をしており、一種独特な色使いとあいまってとっても華やか。

昭和初期のレトロモダンなアンティーク着物の図鑑としても楽しめると思います。この頃って日本人もセンスよかったんだなあ・・・。
残念なのは、モノクロ図版もいくらか入ってること。せっかくなのでオールカラーで見たかったです。

竹久夢二からきて、華宵を経、蕗谷虹児、中原淳一へと続く、当時の少女・乙女をときめかせた雑誌美少女図の流れの一時代が見て取れます。

華宵好きにも、華宵入門者にも、ソフトカバーで手ごろなこの一冊は持っていて損はないかと思います。

少年の絵の方が評価されることの多い高畠華宵だが、女性を描いたものにはグラビア的な華やかさがあってとても素敵だ。「アラ、この着物の柄がトテモ素敵」「まァ、この髪型がいいわネ」と言いながら鏡の前でしなを作ってみたくなる絵なのだ。

華宵の女性の絵に餓えていたのでこの本の絵だけじゃ物足りない。（文章はとてもよかったが）もっと絵をメインにして欲しかったのが正直な感想だ。しかしファンとしてはこのような華宵の女性の絵をテーマにした本が発売されたことは実に嬉しい。
