5.0 out of 5 stars ファン待望の一冊。そして、ダンセイニの復活, 2004/5/3
一部ファンタジー愛好家の間でのみ囁かれるのみに
なっていた、稀代の幻想作家、ロードダンセイニ。

彼の絶品ともいえる初期短編集２冊の完全収録された夢とも思える
本がついに発売された。

この本の素晴らしいところは、全編新訳というだけででなく、
初出にあったサイムの挿絵は完全収録。

作品の並びも短編集の並びにならったというこだわりにもあります。

また、解説の中野さんの文章もダンセイニへの愛情が溢れ、
これも読み応えがあります。

売れれば続きがでるかもとのことです。

中野善夫さんをはじめ、本書の訳者が「役者」だったとは知りませんでした。己が不明を恥じ入る次第。序でに「ヘタクソな訳」がなにを基準にしたものなのか、その辺りの消息をお聞かせいただきたい。また「いたるところで誤訳があ」るそうですが、たとえ一箇所でもよろしいから示唆願えればありがたく思います。共訳なれば、人物名が異なるのは芸のうち、敢えて統一して仲間割れを起こすよりはその不一を微笑ましさと解するのが読者の心得かと。「訳が酷すぎ」はひとの翻訳にけちをつける以前の問題ではないのでしょうか。

さながら透明人間のごとく、訳者の息づかひは抑えられ、署名はあってもほとんど匿名に近い文章が跋扈する時代にあって、本書の文体には燦然たる輝きがあって、十二分に際だっている。原文を理解し、咀嚼したうえでの日本語の高次な表現力を駆使し、そんじょそこらの無味乾燥な翻訳とは一線を違えている。私にとっては一押しの書物である。

物語を楽しむ以前の問題である。
このヘタクソな訳は、いったいなんなのか。
まったく内容が頭のなかに入ってこない。
いたるところで誤訳があり、人物の名前も訳者によって全然違う。
もうちょっとまともな翻訳をしてください。でないと読めません。
