クラスで孤立している人がどのような形で（意識面、行動面とも）しのいでいるかはそれぞれだろう。本作の主人公・ハツが選んだ（選ばざるを得なかった）その形について、いい悪い、好き嫌いなどを云々せず、ただひたすら彼女の心情に寄り添うことに徹して読んでみれば、たいそう胸の痛くなる小説だった。

そんな学校生活の中で、ハツが興味をもった一人の男子・にな川。彼もまた孤立しているのだが、熱狂的ファンである「オリチャン」が心を占有しているため、孤立の事実にすら無頓着に見える。
そんなにな川に対し、ハツが抱いた名づけがたい感情を、一見子どもじみた、しかしどのようにも受け取れるふくらみをもつ「蹴りたい」という衝動で表現した手際。実際に蹴るシーンの熱っぽくて濃い独特の空気は、なかなかのものと思う。

目に見えて何が変わるでもないラストは、好みが分かれたことだろう。ハツのクラスでの状況がよくなる見通しは全くなく、にな川も同様。二人の間柄も「蹴る―蹴られる」関係のままである。
彼らのそれからが気がかりで、しばらく尾を引いた・・・どんなふうにであれ、登場人物が長く読者の心に居座り続けるというのも、魅力的な小説の要件のひとつではなかろうか。

ブームになっている時は目もくれなかったけど、文庫化を機に読んでみた。
この本は評価が二分しているようですが、確かにこの文章、世界観、一見稚拙に感じると思う。
でもこれって実は計算されたリアルさなんです。大体高校一年生の女の子の自意識ってこんなもんでしょ。"私だけは他の子と違うの、私はそんなに安っぽくないの"的思い込みとかね。自分中心で見る世界も勿論狭いし、自分の中に沸き上がる感情をうまく表現する事もできやしない。だからこそ気になる男の子の名前を「蜷川」じゃなく、敢えて「にな川」って、平仮名で書いてあるんだし、リアル女子高生の一人称なんだから、語彙も少なくて当たり前。
しかしながら表現力が上手で、大人になると忘れがちな、歯痒くて、なんだかわかんない、ちくちくするような気持ちを「蹴りたい」と表現してしまうとことか、巧い。
主人公の一人称で進む話なので、いかにもな若くて狭い世界観には共感するのは難しいし、いちいち共感しようとして読んでたらかなりしんどいです。
でも、この「蹴りたい気持ち」にちょっと萌えました(笑)。少女漫画みたいな甘酸っぱさがあります(笑)懐かしさを感じる一冊。でも、このテクって一発しか使えないから、作者がこれからこの表現力をどう昇華させていくのかが見所ですね。ライトノベル的なノリで終わってしまうのか否か―?

感性が貧しいと言われそうですが、これって一冊使って書く内容でしょうか。
蹴りたい背中という複雑で現実的な表現が見事だからなんなんでしょうか。
蹴りたくなる背中という感情以外の描写に重点を置いて見るならば、
これよりも優れた作品は他にもあるはずです。立派そうな賞に選ばれた理由がわかりません。
