綿矢りさの小説を読んだのは本書が初めて。
感想は、「リズムの安定した文章、豊富すぎる語彙、やっぱり現代っ子だなあ」の３点。確かに文章力はある。
が。
この『インストール』と『You can keep it.』どちらとも、結果として何を言いたいのか、まったくわからなかった。
解説で高橋源一郎氏は、やはりその“文章の完璧さ”について言及し、その点において「天才」と評している。しかし、小説の根本的な魅力というのはやはりその作品全体に流れる“精神世界”にこそあると思っている私にとって、綿矢氏のような“文章そのものの良さ”に魅力が終始する作家には疑問を抱いてしまう。
作品自体にどうも深みがないというか、精神性の薄さが思われるため、星は二つ。濃いものを求める人には物足りないのではないでしょうか。

読まずギライを告白せねばならない。

彼女が芥川賞を受賞した折の感想。
「かあ、話題作りか。これでオッサンオバサン連中はきつくなったなあ。
文学なんてオッサンオバサンが若者にアドバンテージを誇れる数少ないジャンルだったのに。」

若者の文体、若者の日常、若者の価値観、そうしたものが主流になると
もはやオッサンオバサンには勝ち目が無い。
英語を学んで、ようやくスタートラインに立てるという絶対的なディスアドバンテージを抱えている日本の学者や研究者のように、異国に近い若者のそれを理解してから勝負しなければならなくなったオッサンオバサンはもはや文学からも見放されたと。

文庫化した。
さすがに批判するのなら読んでからだと思う。
３９９円は安い、だまされたと思っても腹が立たない。
買った。読んだ。

大騒ぎされていた文体に関しては特に新しいものを感じなかった。
が、ナチュラルだと思う。
すうっとからだに溶け込んでいくようなナチュラルな文体。
もしかしたらそれが新しいのかもしれない。

人が
死なない。
これはポイントが高い。
突拍子も無いような事件が起きない。
これもポイントが高い。

そして何より感心させられたのは
価値観のお仕着せが一切無いこと。

若者にありがちな「私はこうありたい。」「社会はこうあるべきだ。」
という価値観の提示が一切存在しないのだ。

それがこんなにも心地よいことだとは思わなかった。

思うに綿矢りさはよほど大人たちから価値観を（肯定的にも否定的にも）提示されること無く育ったのではなかろうか。
そうした人物が自ら価値観を創設すると、勘違い野郎ができあがるのだが、
彼女はその正極の位置にある。

いや　おそれいった。
素敵な作品だった。

表題作もよかったが
併録の　「You can keep it.」がたまらなくよかった。

彼女は素敵だ。

　表題作『インストール』は単行本で持っているので、久々の新作となる書き下ろしの『You can keep it』が読みたくて購入しました。
　クラスのはずれ者が級友たちの歓心を買うために、いろいろと物をプレゼントするという話で、『蹴りたい背中』の二番煎じどころか出がらしです。文章もマンネリ化して、前作のような新鮮さや輝きはありません。
　もう才能が枯渇したのでしょうか。残念です。
