偉大な思想家であった道元の主要な著作である正法眼蔵を読みやすい現代語にしています。

正法眼蔵の原文の日本語は現代人からすると難しいと感じるひとが多いでしょう。そう感じる人でも、この翻訳により、正法眼蔵のすばらしさに触れることができるのです。
原文はとても格調高く、リズムがある文章です。現代文訳を足がかりにさらに原文にも触れるとよいでしょう。
道元の思想に触れるにはとてもよい翻訳だと思います。

　普段の生活の中でなにげなく読み、触れたとき、道元が時間を越えて
傍で語りかけてくるように感じられる本である。
　現代語訳のため、いささかもの足り無さを感じる読者もいるかもしれ
ないが、道元入門書としては優れものであり、この本によって刺激を
受け、人生について深く考え、また、道元の世界に入る切っ掛けになる
には、充分過ぎると思う。　
　私は、この本を買った時からいつもこの本を傍に置き、座禅を始め
ました。

「正法眼蔵」文庫版の中では、一番読みやすいと思います。
まえがきにあるように、「漢文の煩わしさや古文になかなか
馴染のない方々にも読んでいただきたいと願うところから、
本書では、原文を併載せず...注の多くを削って文中に取り
入れて独立した文章となるように推敲を重ね...注は各分冊
の巻末に...」という構成になっています。
古文、漢文が大の苦手の私ですが、途中で投げ出さず最後
まで読むことができました。
