私は分厚いB4サイズ位の本を想像していたので、
届いた時は多少驚きました。
薄い文庫本サイズで、
他の本の資料感覚で鞄に入れる事ができます。
又、驚いた理由はそれだけではなく、
薄い本の中に凝縮して隊士のことが書いてある事です。
近藤局長や土方副長に至っては顔写真まであります。

結成時のメンバーから
函館時のメンバーまでかいてあるので、
知らない隊士をちょっと調べるのに便利です。

何百人といた隊士の人達の事を詳しく書いた本は数少ない。本当に名を馳せた人は小説、映画、舞台など有名な役者の方々が演じて私たちも耳に残っているが、その中にいた名も知らない彼らのことはこの本を読んで勉強になった感じです。もしかするとその人達の活動一つで彼らの運命が少し違ったかもしれないと、少し夢のような事を考えてしまいました。彼らの空気を少しでも感じて見たい方は、読んで見る価値は十分あります。

薄い文庫本である。「へ〜」っていう感じでぺらぺらめくる。ふと思う。これはどのようにして作ったのであろうか？これは大変な作業がなされた結果であるまいか？このデータベースはちょっとやそっとではできまへん。頭が下がります。それと、本題に入ると、近藤、土方だけでなくちょっと加わり、そして静かに去っていった隊員も結構いたということが分かる。それぞれが時代の変化に対して自分なりの道を模索していた若者がいたということも分からせてくれる。
