独特のいかにも淀川さんという文章に飽きることなく読めます。
また、ベスト100にしては意外な映画が結構入っていたりする点も
この本を興味深いものにしていると思います。

ただ、実際の映画のストーリーと異なる記述（多くは単なる勘違い
と思われる）が散見される点が残念。
『オリーブの林をぬけて』の振り返って走ってくる青年が少女に
なっていたり、『鳥』のジャングルジムに群がるカラスがカモメに
なっていたりetc…
また、ストーリーの前後関係や台詞の間違いも散見されます。

しかし、淀川さん曰く「映画は頭で見たら、つまらないね。もっと
感覚的に見てほしい」とのことですし、その通りだと思いますし、
ま、ご愛嬌ということで良いんじゃないでしょうか。

タイトル通り、100本の映画を紹介する本ですが、全体のページ数は200ページ余り。1映画2ページずつ、1ページが映画の画像とスタッフ、出演者やあらすじなどの解説、もう1ページが淀川さんの解説となっています。取り上げている作品は風とともに去りぬのような世界的な超大作からイラン映画まで、ジャンル、年代、国籍の幅広さに驚かされました。
解説は淀川さんの喋り口調をそのまま活字にしたような感じで、とても温かみがあります。解説の内容としてもただあらすじを追ったり、ここが面白いなどという話はあまり無く、監督の意図や作品の意図を説明することに重点が置かれていて、作品を見る上でとても参考になります。
その一方で、「この二人の関係性はホモを感じさせます」「この方はホモなんですね」など、偏ったところにこだわって言及しているところが微笑ましいです。ただ、生前淀川さんが大好きだった『シュワちゃん』の作品は一作も取り上げられていません。

他の方の映画評論本も何冊か買ったのですが、やはり一番的確に書かれているのは淀川さんの本でした。監督の一番伝えたい事をキャッチして重点を置いて語っているからでしょうか。分かりやすく、読んでいるこちらがすぐその映画を観たいと言う気持ちにさせられます。
特にサイレント〜トーキーの初期の映画については淀川さん自身の思い入れが強いものも多く、事実傑作とされる映画がたくさんあります。この本を読んだ後は、ぜひこれを観なくては!!と思わされる映画に出会うこと間違いありません。

ベスト1000はあるのですが、それはちょっと厳しいかなっておもってる人にはオススメです。文庫のわりには少し値段が高い気もしますが。
