私は言葉の迫力、語りの魅力をこの作品で初めて本当に 経験したと思います。この作品は現代の日本語に慣れた 我々にとっての「異言」であり「覚醒」だと思います。 この千年の愉楽を通して中上健次を知るというのは、とても贅沢な経験になることだと思います。 文章から放たれる異様なまでの魅力は至上のものです。

熊野の一路地でくりひろげられる物語集。主人公オリュウノオバはあたかも路
地に生息する巫女のような存在だ。死と再生の世界を自由に行き来する彼女の語り口が、読者に現実と虚構のまざった不思議な物語空間をあたえる。
密閉された、被差別の路地の千年を語る彼女の語り口によって、猥雑で卑小
なこの熊野の一路地が急に宇宙的広がりを持ちはじめる

しかし、中上健次のもつこの小説的リアリテｲーは一体どこから来るのだろう。人倫を逸脱した登場人物たちが、人間の屑どころか、悲劇的で、高貴な血の宿命に綾なされた英雄のようにすらおもえてくるのが不思議だ。
文句なしに力作。

｢千年の愉楽｣は六つの短編からなる。主人公たちはおおむね享楽的で退廃的。実際にいたら眉をしかめたくなるだろう。放恣な性にも嫌悪感を抱くに違いない。
だが、何とも艶やかなのだ。容易に生を手放してしまうあやうさを秘めながら生きる彼らが。なぜか。それはこの物語が、この本を手に取る現代に生きる我々とは別種の価値観を通して語られているからである。即ち、生まれてきた彼らをとりあげた産婆・オリュウノオバの語りによるからだ。
読み書きができず｢路地｣の世界しか知らない老婆の内的世界に同調できるのは、ひとえに語りの力―文体の力ゆえであろう。――陽炎のように情景をたちあげ、主人公たちの焦燥感や虚無感に切なくさせるまでの。
オバは一箇の人間として在るのではない。「路地」の語り部、つまり存する共同体の歴史そのものなのである。そんなオバを通して泡沫のような彼らの生を俯瞰的に眺めていくと、｢時間｣が無化され、目くるめく感覚に陥るだろう。
この感覚に酔いたいがために何十回となく読んでしまいそうな作品である。
