私は学生のころ、この「東西不思議物語」を読んで、澁澤ワールドにはまってしまいました。毎日新聞に連載されていたコラムをまとめたものなので、平易で、1話が短く大変読みやすいですし、日本から世界までの不思議な話がたくさん載っており、理屈抜きに楽しめます。
繰り返し4回くらいは読んだと思います。澁澤龍彦の作品を読んだことのない人には是非おすすめ。

　全く古さを感じさせない。内容も、その語り口からも。

　洋の東西を別として、怪奇譚には似通ったものがちょこちょこ見付かる。それは、人間の想像力や、恐怖の形は、やはり世界中でどこか似ているからなんだろうな、と。
　そんなことをなんとなく考えさせるような、軽くて味のあるエッセイ集。著者の語り口ののん気さに、やたらおどろおどろしい挿絵がマッチしている。絶妙だ。

彼の本は、この本しか読んでいません。もともと毎日新聞に連載されていた頃、学生だった自分は毎週楽しみにしていたのを思い出しました。
改めて文庫版を読み、また嬉しくなりました。
