題名に惹かれて読み始めました。
アウトドアの雑誌で、旧暦と自然生活を扱うものを読んでいましたので、日々の生活や自然現象と旧暦との関わりを期待して読んだのですが、その内容は少ないです。アウトドアに関する内容でもありません。
期待したものとは違っていましたが、初めて知ることがたくさんありました。恥ずかしい話ですが「上弦、下弦の月の名前の由来」「閏月のできかた」「旧暦は太陽太陰暦である」など、知っていたつもりで知らないことも多かったです。きちんと旧暦とそれに関わる事柄について知ることができます。
著者の鈴木さんは暦に関するたくさんの知識をお持ちですが、月や惑星の軌道の計算といった方面から入っていかれたようです。そして、それが旧暦をつくるのには必要なのだということもわかりました。
本書の構成を簡単にあらわすと「旧暦の話」「月の話」「季節感あふれる日記」「雑学コラム」というものです。構成上の都合なのか、同じ話が何度か出て来たり、後で詳しく述べられる言葉が先に出て来て分からないことがあったり、文末の表現が意識的に変えてあったりと、何冊かに分けて出版したらよかったのかなと思いました。たくさんの内容を一冊に濃縮してしまって、ちょっともったいなく思います。
その分、どこから読んでも楽しめるでしょう。

最近注目されている『旧暦』についてのいわばトリビア本です。
知らなくても困らないけど、知ってるとへぇ〜って言ってもらえる暦や月に関する雑学がいろいろ。
このテの本にはただ雰囲気と風流さだけで誤魔化した、あまり内容の無い本も多いのですが、これは天文学的な方面から暦に入っていったという知識の豊富な著者が書かれただけあって読み応えがあります。
この本を読んで旧暦に対して持っていた様々な疑問と根本的な誤解が解消しました。
後半の日記（？）部分も著者の優しいお人柄が垣間見えて好感が持てます。

この種の本にしては、旧暦の仕組みについて詳しく書かれており、内容が論理的で分かり易かったです。
欲を言えば、旧暦というと季節感とか年中行事と結びつけられる事が多いためでしょうか、著者の季節感に対する感想のような日記のような部分が半分程度を占めていますが、これは別冊にでもしていただいて
本書は旧暦の仕組みの解説のみに終始していただければ、他の旧暦本と比較して特色がより強く出るのではないかと思いました。
