　私は、「この作品（映画や文芸、舞台などの）が今まで見た中で一番だ。」と、思うものがごくたまに現れ､しばらくは自分の最優秀作品として頭の中に刻み込まれ、そしてまたそれらは数年おきに更新されていきます。このニックバントックの絵本はかなり長い間私の”最優秀絵本”、”最優秀文学”、”最優秀コラージュ”、”最優秀絵画”と、あらゆる部門にまたがりながら、それぞれに最優秀でい続けています。まさにバントックは二物を与えられた人だと思います。話も書きたい、絵も大好きだ。そう思っている人は世界に大勢いるのでしょうが、やはりバントックはプロフェッショナルで、絵も話も厳しい世界のエンターテイメント界に衝撃を与えられるほどの実力を持っています。

　ある一定の年齢に達した人!の関心を引くには、絵本はやはり難しいでしょう。しかし、（私達が幼い頃に読んだものとは少し違いますが、）絵本であるニックバントックの本に、私は強烈に感動させられました。

5.0 out of 5 stars どうしても惹かれてしまうこの本・・・, 2004/3/30
この絵本を初めて読んだ時の衝撃はいまだに記憶に残っています。見えない落とし穴に一気にはまってしまったような気がして、強い畏怖のようなものを感じました。綺麗で暗示的なポストカードの絵に、本当に自分が受け取ったかのように感じさせる手紙の読ませ方。この絵本を読むためには、各ページに貼付されている封筒から便箋を取り出して広げなくてはなりません。読み終えた便箋をたたむのもまどろっこしく感じるくらい、魅力的で不思議なやり取りが続いていきます。本当に、最後の最後まで。

日本語版には全訳の掲載された小冊子が付いています。便箋はほとんど手書きで英語で書かれているので、これがないとちょっときついかもしれません。でも絶対英語のみのほうが雰囲気でるはず。あぁ怖い・・

1992年の初版を購入しました。
「不思議な文通」というタイトルは、奇をてらい過ぎているなぁと思いましたが、
パラリとめくるとそんな事などどうでも良く、その内容の完成度に魅せられました。
編集を担当された方、また翻訳された方たちの
この本を伝えようとする努力も垣間見えました。

カスタマーイメージを9枚ほど追加しましたので、
イメージ画像は最近撮ったものなので、本の傷みが少し写っていますが
ご容赦下さい。
ほかのレビュアーの方のご意見も参考にしつつ、御覧いただければ幸いです。
