人生を福袋になぞらえて描く八つの連作短篇集。
開けてみるまで何が入っているのかわからない。
福袋の「福」の字になにやら期待をかけ、手にはしてみたものの……。
まったく、これは人生そのものではないか。

普通の人々の日々を、その日々のなかで起こるささくれのような
できごとを、絶妙なダーティーさで切りとっているのが
角田さんらしい作品だ。

しかつめらしく「なぜ生きる？」というような問いかけは一切ない。
煩雑な日常のなかでもがく人の暮らしをざっとなぞり、
苛立ちやのめりこんでいく気持ちや、相手との齟齬を浮き彫りにするのだ。
時には笑いも涙も愛もレリーフのように刻まれた物語。

しかし、人生はまあこんなもんだよ、なんていうおざなりな目線はない。
そこが、角田さんらしい。
あまり好ましくない状況に遭ったとき、人が抱える諸々の逡巡を描いて
リアルだ。その心から思いもよらないことどもが見え隠れする。
囚われていた心が泳ぎ出す瞬間がある。
そこがおもしろかった。

「イギー・ポップを聴いていますか」「白っていうより銀」の２篇がとりわけ
好きだった。

角田さんの新作。表題作『福袋』をはじめとする短編８話から成り立ってます。

ダンボール箱を無理矢理預けて行く「箱おばさん」。預けられた方、中味が死体や爆弾ではないかとハラハラドキドキ。自宅の玄関前に置いてあった紙袋の中味は、ビデオだった。果たしてどんな内容のビデオなのかという「イギー・ポップスを聴いていますか」。突然、通りすがりの人に赤ん坊を預けられしまう男女のお話「白っていうより銀」。ちょっと浮いた存在の長谷川さんとの彼氏談義「フシギちゃん」。母が残した遺言は、突拍子もないものだった「母の遺言」。離婚することになった夫の本当の姿とは…。夫の同会に潜り込み新たに発見したこととは「カリソメ」。恋愛の縁に恵まれなかった男女が同棲する所に迷いこんだ犬が見せるこれからの家庭生活を彷彿させる「犬」。失踪した兄を見つけに行くことにそこからはじまる「福袋」。

短編ながら８話ともに登場人物達の人生の深さを感じさせる内容でした。それは時には笑いありそして時には、なにが出て来るから分からない「福袋」のようです。奥深くシミジミと感じる所がある作品だと思います。

誰もが普通に幸せな人生をおくりたいのに、まあ、できない。それなりの生きがいをみつけたいのに、かけがいのない家族たちと仲良く暮らしたいのに、平凡でも楽しい夫婦生活や子育てがしたいのに、そして、自分の一番好きな人とずっと一緒にいたいのに、できない。
これといっておもしろいこともないまま日々は過ぎていくのだし、親しいはずの関係にはいつしか亀裂が入るのだし、家族やパートナーは自分の思いもよらないような彼（女）らだけの世界をつくって、どこか遠くにいってしまったり、近くにいても、どこか遠くにいるような感じがしてしまうことになる。
そんなよくある幸せ未満の人生たちに、突如、「何か」がやってくる。そしてその「何か」のせいで（おかげで）、自分のこれまでの生き方が新しい視点から見直され、自分のこれからの生き方がわずかながらも想像される、そんな感じの物語が複数取り揃えられた、連作短編集である。
この「何か」をめぐる「すったもんだ」を通して、それまでの不満系の状況は、特に大きく変化するわけでもないが、「幸せ／不幸せ」では語れないような、別の意味をもっているように思われてくる。そのかすかな認識の変化の過程を、様々に追体験することで、読者の人生にも新しい見方が訪れる、かもしれない。
ああ、この今の上手くいかない状況も、あるいはそう考えたらいいのかなあ、てな感じで。
