私も『人のセックスを笑うな』を発売後にすぐ買って、
「うーん･･･」と思ったクチです。

でも山崎さんのエッセイ『指先からソーダ』を読んで
彼女の創作への心構えを知り、考えを改めました。
その後に本作を読んだので、この小説で作者が
試みようとしたことが腑に落ちた感じがしました。

たとえば月曜9時のドラマで、妙齢の男子と女子が出てきたら
「二人は絶対付き合うな」というのが初回からミエミエです。
そういう、巷に広がりまくっている“予定調和”に対して
意をとなえるというか、そうならない場合もありうるという、
そしてそうならなかった男女に生まれる新たな可能性というものを
この作品で提示したのかな、というのが感想です。

それは純愛も含めて恋愛バンザイな風潮に対する
作者なりのオブジェクションかもしれません。


ただし、創作上の試みと、読み物としての面白みが
必ずしも一致しないのが小説というものの難しさで、
読書を娯楽として楽しみたいときには、
カタルシスが乏しいというのは致命的でもあります。

なので、極論をいいますと
ハリウッド映画が好きな方には不向きな小説なのかも、と思いました。

それを踏まえた上で読むか読まないかは、
読む人の選択かなー、と思います。

と言われてしまうとこの本の良さは伝えづらいです。

でもこの本、私はスゴく好きです。山崎さんの作品のなかでは一番好きかも…。

ドラマチックな起承転結を描くのだけが小説とは思いません。

あぁ…この雰囲気読んでみなきゃ伝わらない…。

レビューの酷評のみで手にとるのを止めてしまうのは残念です…

一度読んでから好きか嫌いかを判断して欲しい一冊です。

ナオコーラさんは表現のうまさは相変わらずで、ふとした感覚をひろうセンスも素敵。
でも、この作品はストーリーが非常に退屈で展開もよめてしまう。

登場人物にも魅力がなくて、たとえば風来坊梅田さんは、設定的にもっとインパクトがあるはずのキャラなのに、いてもいなくてもいいようなキャラになっていたり。
桂さんがカツラをかぶっている必然性もないし。ちょっとした小ネタレベルなのにクローズアップしすぎ。
主役の淳之介とエリの関係も、悪い意味で中途半端。


私はナオコーラさんの他の作品は好きなのですが、これだけはいまいちでした。
文章のセンスはある人なので、次作に期待したい。
