大学をやめ、喫茶店の２階に住み込んだまりもが主人公です。
ミカド姉さんに憧れながら平々凡々な生活をしています。彼女はそんな生活に退屈するのか「覗き」が習慣になります。
そんな彼女の生活が崩れるのは、ミカド姉さんの好きな「先生」の登場です。「先生」を好きになったまりもの心が爆発してしまいます。この爆発は何なのでしょうか？
淡々とした生活から、心の動揺、爆発。
この結果、彼女は一皮剥けたというのでしょうか？

非常に綺麗な読みやすい文章なので一気に読めてしまうのですが、いま一つピンときません。まりもの中に共通な部分を見出せないからかも知れません。女性なら理解出来るのでしょうか？

文章は綺麗であり、すらすらと読めてしまう。
しかし、没頭して読んでしまったというより、流れるように読めてしまったという感じだ。

主人公である、まりもは“覗く”という行為により、人というものを解ろうとしていく。
その対象は、向かいのレースのカーテン越しの若い男、姉さんと呼んでいる店の主人、その主人の好きな人である先生と変わっていく。
そして、散歩に出て人の家を覗くという、本当の覗き行為へと移っていく。
しかし、結局は何も得ることは出来ないまりも。

まりもと関わる人との繋がりが、いまひとつ深まらなかったので、なにか消化不良感が残ってしまった。
姉さん、レースのカーテン越しの男、先生等々との絡みがあっさりしていて、そのあたりがさらりと読めてしまった原因かもしれない。

ミカド姉さんへの愛と嫉妬と羨望を混ぜ合わせたような、主人公の複雑な気持ちや、拠りどころのない自分の位置を、他人の生活を覗くことで確かめようとする主人公の行動など、何となく分かるような気がします。ふだんどうしようとも、どうしたいとも思いませんが…。この小説がかわりにしてくれましたね。
