それだけ研究し、自信があるからでしょう。
古楽の大きな流れ、解釈の基本的考察、古楽器について、音と言葉の関係、などを、マニアックな要素を絡めつつもわかりやすく伝えようとする、情熱を感じる一冊です。
作曲家達の残した言葉なども紹介されており、楽しく読むことが出来ました。

より専門的な知識を求めて読むのであれば、『音楽は対話である』を、おすすめいたします。

バロック音楽を研究してきた著者による音楽論。
その言説は音楽する現代人にも役立ちます。
彼の作り出す音楽が如何にタフかは
手始めに「ヴィヴァルディ:四季」を聴いてみてください。
すごい音色変化とダイナミクス、そして速度、間（ま）、遠近感。
上質の電子音楽を聴いているみたいです。

折りに触れて書き散らした文章を集めてるので、書き下ろしの精密な統一性はないが、行間に隠れる西欧音楽界の伝統が、密度の高い考察に結びついて、28本の論文集が、まるで地獄の千本ノックのような奥行きと過酷さを秘めている。見栄を張ってドイツ語の原書から取り付いて挫折したが、これだけの内容では簡単に読める訳がない、と納得。逆に雑多な論文集のため、日本人に馴染みない地域の伝統や生活のモットー、民族的な舞踏曲への言及も取り込まれて、非常においしい。中心をなすのは、自筆譜の解釈やら演奏技法、アーティキュレーション、音響や楽器の歴史的変化など、研究と演奏のマクロでミクロな論点。やっぱりアーノンクールは凄かった。
