山口 秀雄
ヴァイオリニスト。京都市出身。同志社大学法学部卒業後、大阪フィルハーモニーに入団。1963年アメリカ・インディアナ大学に留学、ヴァイオリンを、ギレー、ガラミアン、ゴールドベルク等に、室内楽を、アマデウス・クヮルテット、シュタルケル等に師事。1965年シンシナティ・シンフォニーへ入団。その後ニューオルリンズ、ユタ・シンフォニーにも在籍。ユタ州立大学で弦楽を教授。現在は大阪市に在住(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

練習をするための練習から、脱するために、
あるいは、音楽の持つ息吹を絞め殺すような練習をしないために、
基礎練習と考える練習はとても大切だと想う。
２００の引用譜は、バッハ、モーツァルト、ベートーヴェン、ロマン派…のみならず
シュポア、イザイ、バルトーク、プロコ、ブロッホ、ハチャトゥリアン…
当時の新しい作曲家の曲にまでわたり、
シゲティの師であったフバイの言葉、ロマン派以降の作曲家たちとのやりとり、
など、非常にリアルな現場の話も多く、
シゲティのワンポイントレッスンのような体裁である。
練習中の楽曲について検索するには、末尾に索引一覧もあるが、
それだけでなく、読み物としても十分面白いので、
プロアマ問わず一度は読んでみると、その楽器と楽曲の関係の奥行きの深さにとりこになるかもしれない。
スケールフレーズとピッチを軸に、フィンガリングやボウイングについて
彼がいかに真摯に取り組んでいたのかを知るだけでも、
お仕着せの書き込みやレッスンの内容を自問する結果を呼び、
基礎練習への取り組みなど、意識的に効率よく学ぶことを考えるきっかけになるだろう。
この教本に、従来のセブシックや改訂版カールフ・レッシュ、更に現代はモード旋法習得のために玉木宏樹氏の「革命的音階練習」などを交えてアプローチするのは、有効だと思う。
