Ｐ２Ｐに関して、基本的要素、歴史、使われている技術、アプリケーション例、これからの可能性などについて解説されています。

どんな人にも理解できるように平易に、またＮｅｔｗｏｒｋ関連の技術的な用語・詳細内容もそれなりにとりいれて、バランスよく書かれていると思います。

Ｐ２Ｐの中でもいくつか異なる構成があり、そのあたりの差についても解説されており、有名なＳｋｙｐｅがどのように動作しているかも分かります。

Ｐ２Ｐの解説書は、まだあまり多くは出ていないと思われますが、本書は、内容・価格的にも、バランスがとれていると思います。

　ピア・トゥ・ピア型のコンピュータシステムについて解説した、一般向けの本。P2Pとは何か、その歴史、P2Pを支える技術、ビジネス活用されているアプリケーションの例、P2Pのビジネス適用、P2Pの今後、といった内容。左ページが文章、右ページがイラスト、というレイアウト構成で、イラストが豊富に用いられている（ただし、正直なくても構わないイラストがほとんどだと思う）。専門家向けの本ではないものの、TCP/IPネットワークやLANの仕組み、クライアント・サーバー型コンピュータシステム、等についてある程度知っている読者が対象か。これらについて全く知らないと、本書を一通り読んだだけでは表面的な部分しか理解できないのではないかと思う。

　本書の特徴は、P2P技術そのものを面白がるというよりも、P2Pのビジネス適用を視野の真ん中に据えている点。著者は、スケーラビリティと冗長性というP2P型システムのメリットを活かすためにはP2Pだけにこだわるのではなく、ユーザー管理、ファイルに対するアクセス権、セキュリティ、といったP2P型システムだけでは一元管理しにくい（できない）情報に関してはクライアント・サーバー型システムとの併用を提案している。

　P2Pについて考えるとき、システムの提供者・管理者の立場に立つのか、エンドユーザーの立場に立つのかによって、見えてくるものが異なるのではないかと思う。本書はどちらかと言うと、システムの提供者・管理者の視点から見えてくるものについて述べている。ビジネス用途のP2Pアプリケーションに求められる機能についての考察は勉強になったが、エンドユーザーにとってのP2Pの意義についてはあまり語られていない、という印象を受けた。

はやりのP2Pが、結構細かいレベルで概要がわかる
サーバなしで、ローカル端末だけでサービスを構築できないかを検討している人にはおすすめ
