初心者から上級者まで利用できる。
本書のはじめからJukeboxを例にスクリプトを構築していく。
Jukeboxに必要な機能を徐々に追加していく際に新たなテクニックやオブジェクト指向について自然に溶け込むことができる。
後半にはパッケージ管理や、GUIについても程よい量で記述されている。
もちろん、文法などについても詳しく書かれている。
まつもとさん監訳の著書なので、pealに慣れた人にとって不安になるような場面に遭遇しても信頼して読むことができる。

この本は、全くのプログラミング初心者(プログラミングの経験が全くない)人には向かないと思います。
この本を読む前に、Rubyの入門書を一通り読んで(実際にプログラムを動作させて)からこの本を読むと、より一層の理解を得られます。

事前に何かしらのプログラミング言語を使いこなしている人がこの本を読んだ場合、非常に面白く読み進める事ができるでしょう。
Rubyの何が優れいているのか、Rubyの何処が使いやすいのか、それを発見することでさらなる探求心をくすぐられます。

あくまでも私の場合ですが、この本はチュートリアル形式を採用しているため、ライブラリ的な利用の仕方よりは読み物としての側面が濃く、「体系的な知識の確認」として繰り返し繰り返し読む事で威力を発揮しています。

一度読んでプログラムを動かしたくらいでは、この本が伝えてくれる全てを理解することは難しいです。

有名な映画や小説は繰り返し読む(見る)事で、その世界観や意味を味わえますよね！？
この本のチュートリアルがまさにソレに当たります。
この本のチュートリアルを何度もこなせば、この本だけで包括的なRubyの知識と技術を手に入れられます。

その後、Rubyを利用したソフトウェア設計を検討する段階になると、ライブラリ編の登場ですね。

非常に役に立つ面白い本なのだが、内容が難しい。

個人的には示唆的表現は多い。
初心者にはつらいかも。
「楽しいＲｕｂｙ」を読んでから読むとよい。

（追記）Ｒｕｂｙを使う人はこの本はライブラリー編も含めで必須です。
必ず手元においておく必要があります。初めて読むと、上記のような感想になりますが、英語版もウェブなどで、参照できるので、余力がある人は見ておいたほうがいいでしょう。
