山本昌邦による日本サッカーへの提言。コンフェデ出場を逃したアジア杯への苦言から75分過ぎの得点ゼロの現実、クラブ監督と代表監督との相違点、さらに育成年代への指導論、クラブのあり方など未来の日本サッカー界に早期解決を必要とする課題を著者らしい緻密な分析と経験でまとめあげている。
「アテネ経由ドイツ行き」を果たしたのは茂庭（選手発表2週間後田中誠の離脱で急遽召集）、駒野のわずか二人。そしてアフリカ大会にはいよいよ「アテネ経由アフリカ行き」メンバーが中心となり、いよいよ全ての世代がワールドユース（U20ワールドカップ）出場経験者となる。山本氏の提唱するアジア、他サッカー対戦国へのJFA拠点の設置、ナビスコ優勝チームのA3出場枠（開催国枠ではすでに実現）等世界を知る著者らしい興味深い話も多く書かれている。
