昔々、小学校６年生の時にこの「よだかの星」で感想文を書かされました。
書かされたというのがチョッとまずい表現ですが、担任の先生の指導で全員が
読書感想文を書いたのです。
なんとなく当時から人間というものに不信感？を持っていた私は、生きていくために
他の命を奪うことへの嫌悪感を書いた記憶があります。
今思い返せば、自分自身でもこれでは救いがないと思ったのか、最後に稚拙な言葉で
「よだかが星になったのは神様がかわいそうに思ったから」という一文を付け足しました。

クラスから一人選ばれた私の作文は、先生の添削でその最後の一文が削除されていました。
その時は「先生はなんで消したんだろう。」と思いました。多分唐突な文だったからでしょう。
しかし、数十年後の今考えることは、そうでも思わなければ、やはりつらすぎる話です。
今、もし感想文を書けといわれたら、私はやはり最後の一文を付け足すでしょう。
「いのち」というものは大変に重いものであり、そして、現実社会では限りなく「軽い」
ものになっているとしか思えないからです。

この本を子供に読ませました。何をどう感じたかは言いませんが、何かを感じ取ってくれたと思います。

宮沢賢治が「救い」というものをどう考えていたのか、私には分りませんが、私個人の
想いでは、「神」、「仏」、「God」、「オバー・マインド」など、どのように言っても、
そのような存在を考えてしまう作品です。

Ａ５サイズで挿絵は見開きや片側など多目に入っていますが、作品の雰囲気をこわさずに読めると思いました。色づかいや絵のタッチも自然で、小学生の子供も気に入っているようでした。

同シリーズで「やまなし」と一緒に「よだかの星」も購入。

生きる事＝食べること＝他を犠牲にしていること、大人になってから読むと子供の頃に読んだ印象とはまた違った発見もあります。
賢治自身の目線を強く感じますが、同時に、自然や宇宙の物語描写も入り、独特の幻想的な世界が味わえる本です。
子供へ読み聞かせしながら、宮沢賢治の作品を読み返すきっかけにもなります。

正直、息子にせがまれてというより、
親のワタシが、ある時、無性に読みたくなって衝動買いしました。

賢治は、「死」をどう表現していたんだっけなあ、と。

たしかに、内容的には、６歳児には、ちょっと早すぎたかも?!
仏教思想に彩られた深い諦念（祈りにも似た）があります…

けれど、「死」という得体の知れない現実に目覚めつつある息子に、
この絵本の世界を通して、ナニカを感じ取ってもらえたら…

もちろん、答えはありません。
その点では、大人も子どもも、平等なのです。

答えのない「疑問」を持ち続けるのも、勇気だと教えたかったんですね。
いま、考えると。
読み聴かせの時間を共有することで、子どもの「怖れ」を、
自分も共有してあげたかった!

親子で大ファンである、村上康成の挿絵も大作で、見逃せません。
賢治の世界に挑んでいます!!
