1978年に日本眼科医会から、眼科医療機関で働く従業員の教育を行う目的で、OMAの自宅学習と講習のためのハンドブックとして『眼科検査のすすめ方』が出版された。その後1983年に改訂版が、また1991年に第3版が発刊された。その後さらに10年がたち、眼科学も著しく進歩したので、今回それに沿って内容を充実させてOMAのみならず、看護婦やORTにも対象を広げた本書を発刊することにした。
