腎臓病の本といえばいろいろ腎臓の病気の区分に始まり、透析についてまで書かれ自分の読みたい部分が少なくつい何冊も購入する羽目になる｡
この本は保存期に的を絞っており、さまざまな症状検査値異常に対してどのような治療を行うべきかていねいに書かれている。

　慢性腎不全は透析前の状態として重要であるばかりではなく、最近脳心血管症の発症による死亡リスクも高いとされており、臨床医にとって、いかに外来管理をおこない、どの時点で専門医に紹介するか？は重要な課題である。本書は慢性腎不全のそれぞれの病期に応じた薬物療法、食事療法と日常生活管理法などの患者指導法を教えてくれる点で格好の指南書となると思います。さらに透析導入時の注意では、著者のグループが意欲的に取り組んでおられるCAPDにもページを割いて解説されています。また腎臓専門の立場から、糖尿病性腎症末期の血糖コントロールにおけるインスリン治療の重要性を指摘されております。やや詳細に記述しているため、時間をかけて読む必要がありますが、非専門医、入門者にも腎不全の全体像を把握する上で必携の本であろうと考えます。
