３０年ほど前、初めてブラックジャックを読んで、私の人生のバイブルとなりました。
全て良いと言っている訳ではありません。
人間のいやな所、いい所。人間の体の可能性と限界。人って何を良しとして何処へ行こうとしているのか…まだ小学生だったから曖昧にだけど、漠然とした世界観を自分なりに考えるいいきっかけとなりました。

今、テレビアニメ化され、興味を持った私の子が「原作を読みたい」と言い出しました。うちの子は私が初めてこの本に出会った時と同じ年齢です。
それを思い出して私は全身に鳥肌が立ちました。
何を信じて良いか解らないこの世の中で、変わらない何かがあって、それを信じたいと思わせてくれる一冊です。

　今回のチャンピオンコミックスの新装版は、ファン待望の初めて連載時の掲載順に収録したシリーズとなっています。手塚治虫は、作品の単行本化に際しては連載時の内容を大幅に変更して載せたりすることがあったくらい、単行本のバランスを考える人でした。その為、今までのチャンピオンコミックスは一冊に収録する話の全体のバランスを考えたが故に、掲載順と収録順が一致していませんでした。また、収録話数も12話と３話分ボリュームアップされています。このシリーズは、以後毎月３冊づつ刊行されるようです。
　ただ残念なのは、新書版独特の縦長サイズと一枚一枚の紙の厚さが災いして、非常に読みづらくなっていることです。それと、このシリーズはアニメシリーズ記念の刊行なのですが、アニメの進行と毎月刊行される単行本の内容の進行には関連がない事です。（10/11放送の『オペの順番』はブラックジャック連載時の第242話(最終話)です。したがって新装版に掲載されるのは最終巻ということになります。）
　いち早く全話読みたいという人は秋田文庫版(全17巻)をお薦めします。

今回の新装本で、あらためて掲載順で読み返しております。
「生命」に纏わるストーリーにまさにこの第一巻ののっけからパンチを受けております。
じっくりＢＪに触れ直すには最適な刊行ではないでしょうか？
ファンだけでなく多くの人にぜひ目を通して頂きたいですね。
