僕は漫画がとても好きで本棚に何百冊もならんでいます。
「その中で一番面白い漫画は？？」と聞かれると悩んだ挙句答えられないでしょう。
でも「１タイトルだけ残すなら？？」と聞かれれば迷わず「ブラックジャック」と答えるでしょう。
手塚作品のなかでも僕の中ではぶっちでナンバーワンです。
数ある漫画の中でもブラックジャックは「別格」だといえるのではないでしょうか。
単なる「医者はどうあるべきか」という内容ではありません。
「火の鳥」ほど濃くはありませんが「人間」「愛」「地球」などの哲学的テーマがなんともユーモアにあふれた物語の根底に流れています。
何度も読んでいて思ったのですが、ブラックジャックは作品ごとのラスト一コマがとんでもなく素晴らしいです。
言葉では説明しにくいのですが「パンチのきいた隠し味」的な役割を持ってます。
読んだことがない人はあまりいないと思いますが、万人にお薦めできる数少ない漫画だと思います。

　少年チャンピオン・コミックスにも、講談社の手塚治虫漫画全集にも収録されていない、『金！金！金！』、『不死鳥』、『おとずれた思い出』の３話を含む、11話を収録。
　面白いのは、『人間鳥』や『化身』。連載初期の、荒唐無稽なお話だ。
　でもやっぱり、11話どれを取っても、人間ドラマがぎっしり詰まった１冊です。

　少年チャンピオン・コミックス版、それも新装版ではなく旧版の「ブラック・ジャック」は全巻持っているのですが、私が持っている版には収録されていない作品がいくつかあるということを最近初めて知りました。その未収録作品のうちの３つがこの秋田文庫版17巻で読めると聞き、この巻を手にした次第です。

　確かに私がこれまで読んだ記憶のないものがあります。それは以下の3話です。
　「金！金！金！」
　「不死鳥」
　「おとずれた思い出」

　「不死鳥」は手塚の代表作のひとつ「火の鳥」を意識した作品です。
　少年チャンピオンで連載時に一度は発表されていながら、なぜその後単行本に収録されなかったのか、その経緯はわかりません。本巻にもその事情はつまびらかにされていません。

　この巻に収められた「おとずれた思い出」「ピノコ再び」そして「台風一過」の三作品では、ピノコの切なさが胸を打ちます。
　ブラック･ジャックが硬質でストイックな倫理観を大上段から振りかざす一方で、ピノコは健気で一途な姿勢で人の心に迫ってくるのです。
　サブキャラクターとしてのピノコの魅力あふれる巻といえます。
