長らく絶版だった名作が完全収録で復刊され、発表当時からのファンとしてとても嬉しい。
上巻の中では、汽車に乗った老人のエピソードが特に好きだ。
老人にとっての「アメリカの海」は、自分にとっての「船を建てる」の世界と同義である。
老人の中で、過ぎた日の「アメリカの海」の思い出がリフレインするように
美しく詩的で愛らしい佇まいに無情と残酷さを内包した「船を建てる」の世界は
初読の時からずっと、自分の中で美しい響きをたてている。

ただ、サイズが旧版より小さいせいか、トーンの再現性などの点で印刷の質が旧版より悪く見える。
特筆すべき書き足しはなく、本当に作品を完全収録しているだけなので（それが美点でもあるが）
旧版を持っている者にとって「お得感」は少ない。
未読の方には、文句なくお勧め。
旧版を持つ人は、現物を確認されて一考されるもよし、という感じだ。

「船を建てる」が復刊したのですね！表紙、背表紙共に、船室の窓のような切抜きになっており、復刊者のこだわりが非常に感じられます。
連載当時、他のストーリー漫画でもなく、ギャグ漫画でもない、この不思議な世界に非常に惹かれていました。
漫画と言うより、村上春樹やアメリカのハードボイルド短編小説に世界が近いですね。
あるいは、ヨーロッパ映画？
とにかく、日本の漫画の世界からは一線を引いています。
漫画であえて、近いところで高野知子でしょうか？（異論あると思いますが、私の感覚では）

アシカを中心にしたヒューマンハードボイルドＳＦ？？

まあ、とにかく一度読んでみて下さい。説明できない気持ちが少し分かっていただけるのでは。

小学生の頃、たまにぶーけを買っていたから、読んだことあるような作品もありました。なんかうろ覚えなんですが、懐かしい感じがしました。
15年くらい昔の作品なんですが、背景とかインテリアとかすごくおしゃれです。今読んでも違和感がありません。登場動物はいろいろいますが、私はチェリーが一番好きです。ヘッドドレスが可愛い。

鈴木志保さんは、空間の使い方が上手いです。
私はこの作品の絵柄の方が今の作品より好きかな、と思います。

はじまりも天使アシカだの卵になるだの不思議でしたが、最後もかなり不思議な終わり方です。映し出される過去のコーヒーとタバコの映像と青空、座礁している船、と何だかもの悲しくなるような終わりかたなのですが、そこが逆に良かったです。
サントラ出してほしいです。
