大学のセミナーで「続日本紀」を購読した。にもかかわらず、この時代をこんなにビビッドに感じたことはなかった。古典に、あるいは歴史に興味のあるひとはぜひ読んでみてほしい。ある意味、西欧のファンタジーとは異なるが、そのレベルにおいてはひけをとらない完成度。構成といい、また、主人公やわき役の見事な生き生きぶり。不破麻呂がねたましいくらいに、よかった。しばらくあの時代を楽しんでみよう。

現代の少女が過去へタイムスリップして、その時代を体感する。体感するだけでなく、生きる。さまざまな人に合い、（それが皆実在人物！？）恋をして、泣いて。それが、何の無理もなく、さわやかに描かれる。日本のファンタジーのレベルの高さを思い知らされた。そこらへんの外国の作品よりもよっぽど面白かったぞ。あっという間に読み終えたが、余韻のすごさに酔った。いや、たいしたものを書く人もいるものだ。しかも無名の作家が。児童文学もあなどれない。男性作家だからかちょっと官能的なところもヨカッタ（笑）。

設定そのものから、心がふるえるほどでした。ささいな間違いに心を痛める少女が、ひょうたんにどこへ連れていってもらえるのだろう、と。この『サラシナ』こそは、作者のこれまでの作品の集大成だと思います。『ドーム郡ものがたり』のかおりもほのかにします。少女の成長物語として読むのは間違いではないでしょうか。これは国際的なレベルでもひけをとらない美しい日本のファンタジ―です。たくさんの人に読んでもらいたい。
