徳富 一光
1944年、山口県に生まれる。高校時代に、生物部で洞くつ探検に興味をもつ。のちに地元の美祢に、洞くつ探検グループ「こうもり会」をつくり、秋吉台を中心に探検活動をするとともに、洞くつ写真を手がけはじめる。1971年、こうもり会の仲間と、東ニューギニア高地の洞くつ探検を行う。書籍、図鑑などに作品を発表し、洞くつ写真家として活躍している(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

大好きな科学のアルバムシリーズ。
なかでも、この「しょうにゅうどう探検」は
気分がワクワクしておさまんない。

鍾乳石の素敵な写真にときめいて…
たてあなとよこあながあみの目のように入り組む
どうくつのようすを記した図にときめく。
この本を開くたびに
トム･ソーヤの冒険に出てくる鍾乳洞の話にわくわくした
日日を思い出す。
そして、いつか、きっと
このどうくつの世界を探検するんだ！
そう、いつも決心させられる本なのです。

一度入れば最後、何日も出られなかったり、ついには出口を見つけられずに帰ってこられないことさえある・・・「不帰の穴」。この本の冒頭は、その穴に入ってみましょう、という、なんとも魅力的な文句から始まる。
洞窟の中には、何百年も、何千年も、何億年もかけて少しづつ成長していった石筍、つらら石がところせましと並ぶ。なかには、石のカーテンやもやしのような不思議な形状をしたしょうにゅう石もある。だんだん畑のようになったリムプールもある。それらは美しく輝く。
はるか昔からの土砂を堆積させた地下水の池。底なし沼も広がる。身をかがめて進まなければいけない場所や、時には切り立った崖のような竪穴を命綱ひとつで降りなければいけないこともある。降り立った地には、ひたすら静寂が広がる地底の大広間･･･。静けさと暗闇の中で、ひそかに活動する、目の退化したコウモリや昆虫たち。

なんてエキサイティングなんだろう。読者は洞窟の自然そのものの姿を捉えた著者の写真に、まるで自分が、その中を今進んでいるような臨場感を覚える。
闇の中にきらめく洞窟は、恐ろしさもあるが、神秘的な魅力をたたえている。
読み進むにしたがって、暗闇の世界に、だんだんと不安をおぼえ、日の光が恋しくなる。すると・・・

そこに突然に出口が広がる。その出口のページを見たときの清清しい安堵感といったら、ない。

同じ日本に、こんなに不思議で、美しい場所が存在しているなんて、一体どれほどの人が意識していることだろう。平々凡々とした日常生活を送るなか、ひとたびこの本を開けば、そこには底なしの神秘と冒険が幕をあけるのだ。
大人でも十分に楽しめる、写真満載の科学絵本です。
