女王の御世のカルバニア王国。
乱暴だけど男前な女の子、エキューはカルバニア初の女公爵となった。

今回は、女公爵としてのエキューのお仕事ぶりと
女王タニアのお仕事やその一貫である結婚問題など。

エキューのほうは、「女」公爵として侮られることもあっても
気概と能力で突っ切っていて、快感です♪
恋人のライアンとも、今のところは順調そう。
エキューらしい、エキューのお話でした。
タニアのほうは、結婚問題がらみのお話。
コンラッド王子のほんわりしたお話と、
結婚はタニアの「お仕事」でもあるということを実感させられるお話です。
エキューがメインのお話のときに登場するタニアは、
いつもにこにこ笑って楽しそうで、たまに愚痴って
普通の女の子という雰囲気ですが
タニアがメインのお話だと、その女王としての責務への意識、
対処の仕方の見事さと胆力に、瞠目させられます。

二人の恋も未来も、まだまだ未確定要素が多くて
この先の二人がどんなふうになるのか、楽しみです。
ちなみに、あとがきはカバーを剥いだらでてきました。（←初め、落丁かと思いました。。。）

定石通りの物語なら、タニアとコンラッドは色々あってくっつくのかなぁとか、エキューとライアンは色々あって結婚に至るのかなぁとか思うんでしょうけど、この作品は読者に安易な判定をさせてくれません。ひょっとしたら色々あってタニアとライアンがくっつくのかも？、エキューとフランがくっつくのかも？―――と、ここ数巻はそんな推理をしてましたが、新たにナジャルというキャラも出てきたし、本当にいったいどんな風に展開していくのか…。この作品のキャラ心理や人間関係は実に複雑で、生きている人間のように変化し、進化していっている、そんな気がします。

連続した話が二つと、単品が二つ。
どれもいつも通りに素敵な話でした。
そしてまた、考えさせてくれる話でもあります。

利権、プライド、恋愛、コンプレックス、人間関係、立場、結婚、性別。
タニアを始め全てのキャラクターの弱さと強さが愛おしく、同時にとても痛いです。

しっかり重い話でも、読み終わって後味が悪くない。
そこが好きです。
