この著者は、多重人格探偵サイコやサブカルチャー論で有名である為、実は小説はあまり読んだ事が無い人も多いと思う。そんな人に入門篇として、この本をお勧めしたい。

この著者の小説に特有である、幾つもの作品に同一の名前の人物が登場する（パラレルワールドに近い）形は今回も変わらないが、今回は伝説の殺人鬼大江公彦のみである。物語にそれほど関係がある訳でもないので、初めて読む人にも読み易い。
正直、展開やストーリーで魅せる話ではない。読んでいて退屈だと感じる人も居るかもしれない。だが、この本はその軽い退屈すらも利用して、描写と感情移入をスムーズに行っていく。冬の持つ寒さ、閉鎖感、沈黙などの言葉に出来ない要素を、著者は鮮やかに文章から引き出している。
最後の幕切れまで、この感覚は途切れない。青さ、中二病、言い方は色々あるだろうが、青春の一時期に特有の感情、切なさが、読むたびに鮮明に蘇るのである。まさに正しい意味で、これはライトノベルである。

大江公彦サーガの一部であり、世界観は『ジャパン』と同じです。
大塚英志さんの言う「自分の作品の同人を自分で出す」そのものの作品です。
道具は従来のものを使いながら、中身やタッチの雰囲気は微妙に違います。
前知識や既存の大塚作品を知らない人が、最も楽しめる作品かもしれません。
