この小説のすごいところは、すべてのジャンルを網羅しているところです。ユダヤ教とキリスト教の関係、歴史、事実と空想、サスペンスとバイオレンス、この数年で一番楽しめた作品です。その方面の方からは反論が来るかもしれませんが、特に宗教の勉強になるところがたくさんありました。映画化の話があるそうですが、インディジョーンズよりも内容が深いので楽しみです。

脳腫瘍となった娘の命を救うため、奇跡の治癒能力を持つイエス・キリストの遺伝子を利用しようという科学者と、再臨したはずのキリストを探し出すためにその科学者の遺伝子の知識を利用しようとする宗教家。この二人の異なった思惑が、イエスの遺伝子を持った人物を特定していくシーンは興奮の連続です。これがデビュー作とは信じられないほどの完成度の高さです。

ダヴィンチ コードに似た傑作と知って，読んでみた（イギリス版). しかし，折角第二のメシアとして生まれて来たマリアが，秘密教団の殺人者ネメシスとしてだけ働いて，死刑囚になった後にメシアだと知らされ，結局何もできずに処刑される，と言うのは，いくらSFだといっても芸がなさ過ぎないだろうか．本文の最後の一行に，遺体が消失したらしい示唆があるが，死んだあとの奇跡だけでは余りにマリアが哀れである．一方ネメシスに殺される筈の，ノーベル賞学者先生は，秘密教団からキリストの真正なDNAを手に入れたり，教えを受けたり，勝手気儘で首尾一貫性のない言動をほしいままにする．私はこの主人公が好きになれない．メシアが殺人者という大胆な設定が全く機能していないので，全体として面白いけれど全面的な成功作とは言えないだろう．なお，日本語訳はまあまあ．
