3.0 out of 5 stars 鬼坊主が遭遇する事件を描く短編集, 2009/7/18
著者の作品を読むのはデビュー作の「筋違い半介」に続きいて2作目だ。「筋違い半介」は各々が独立した時代劇短編集だったが、本書は同じ短編集でも最後の作品を除いては全て主人公が同一であるところが異なる。

但し、主人公の不覚は鬼坊主と異名を持つ大男で貧乏寺に住む怪しげな坊主で、槍の腕前は抜群なことを除けば、世のために役立とうとしているわけでもなく、人好きのする性格でもない、愛すべきキャラクターとはほど遠い人物である。

そんな不覚が巻き込まれる事件を解決するミステリー仕立ての作品が中心であり、著者の文書の巧みさもあり、もの凄く面白い作品があるわけではないが大きな外れもなく、それなりに楽しむことができた。その中で一番心に残ったのは「帰郷」で、薄幸な娘「おしの」の哀れさが胸に沁みる作品だった。
