飛行機好きの遺伝子を息子にも受け継がせる計画の一環として，買ってみました．お話に山場がいくつかあるため，読み聞かせをするとき，親の方がつまらなくなるということもなく，楽しんで読めます．どきどき感がいっぱいです．もの語りの世界に引き込む力が強いお話です．飛行機，空を飛ぶ仲間，大きな鯨，仕事の大事さ，協力といったキーワードで表されるような内容でしょうか．また絵がカラフルかつ暖かみのある絵柄で好感が持てます．読後，やさしい気持ちと勇気が出てきます．
息子は，フラップをよんだ後は，必ず飛行機のおもちゃを手に持って「ぶーん」と言いながら動き回っています．計画は成功しているようです（笑）．

最近の本屋では、1960〜1970年代からのベストセラー絵本、最近出版された、商業主義に乗っ取ったけばけばしい絵本、おしゃれな親に受ける、イメージ重視の絵本…などが多いように思います。
でもこの絵本は、そのどれにも属さず、これぞ絵本!という感じで、ページの隅から隅までとても丁寧に描かれた絵や、わくわくドキドキするお話の展開の仕方が、子供達の純粋な目と心に訴えかける力を持った、すばらしい絵本です。
値段も少々高めで、大きさも大きめの本ですが、その長所を存分にいかし、気持ちの良い青空の中でフラップが飛び立つ場面、広い海原、嵐の場面、大きな大きな鯨、本当にたくさんの鳥達、美しい夕焼け・・・まるで自分が本当にそこにいるかのように錯覚してしまう迫力があります。
かと言って、決して写実的な訳ではなく、すごく可愛い絵なのです。
最後にあるフラップの寝顔は、まるで今読み聞かせをしてあげたばかりの、可愛い我が子の寝顔にそっくりだと思うことでしょう。
絵本が大好きで、いつのまにか300冊以上本棚に並んでしまいましたが、その中でも5本の指に入る、美しい絵本です。
値段以上の価値は、きっと感じてもらえると思います。
