　重い病気にかかっている母さんの事、そのせいで自分の事を相手にしてくれなくなった父さん、そして親友のロレインの引越し…。
十六歳の少女ゾーイは、今、絶望の淵に沈んでいた。
しかし、吸血鬼の少年サイモンとの運命の出会いが、ゾーイの世界を変えていく…。
　この本はとても素敵な本です。私は今まで吸血鬼の本を何冊か読んだ事がありますが、これほど読みやすく、心が惹かれる作品はありませんでした。読み出すと止まらないほど、物語に感情移入してしまいます。
　吸血鬼サイモンの登場の仕方や、話し方、それに心情の変化の様子…、どれをとっても文句なしで、ストーリーの構成も上手いです。
　男(サイモン)と女(ゾーイ)、それぞれの視点から書かれているので、珍しくて面白いと思います。

吸血鬼もののジュブナイル小説と侮るなかれ。
死期の近い母、それに心とられて構ってくれない父に、
どこにも居場所がないと感じている十六歳のゾーイ。
そして同じく長いあいださすらいながら生き続ける吸血鬼サイモン。
二人の孤独が触れ合う時に生まれるかすかな官能。
派手な設定も込み入った筋立てもないけれども、心情が丁寧に描かれることで
シンプルながら非常に美しいファンタジーとなっています。
アメリカの高校生のスクールライフをちらりと垣間見られるのも面白い。

孤独を抱えた二人の少年少女の、揺れ動く心情にご注目ください。甘いものではありませんが、切なくて心に残る一作です。最後は、悲しくて涙が出ました。ぽっかりとあいた喪失感・・・一体どうしましょうね？
