原題は"Self-Hypnosis: The Key to Success and Happiness"、『自己催眠――成功と幸福への鍵』です。
そして内容は原題の通りで、豊富な実例を挙げながら、あっけにとられるほどわかりやすく、自己催眠法とその実人生への応用の仕方について解説しています。

ところで、著者は本題に入る前に、催眠療法がオカルトまがいのものとして勘違いされてきた歴史について、かなり長く前置きしています。予備知識のない者にとっては（私もそうです）、催眠療法なんて怪しげなものにしか思えませんからね。

そこで、まず読者の誤解を避けようと、著者は第一章の大半を費やして、催眠療法が科学的な心理療法の一つであることを説明しているのですが、その著者の努力をまるごと無駄にするかのように、「魔法の言葉」という邦題を取ってつける訳者や編集者はいったい何を考えているのでしょうか。

私自身、原題を確認していなかったら、一笑に付して、決して本書を買うことはなかったでしょう。それでも、内容を考えて、星５つです。

この本を読むまでは正直言って催眠術とはなにか胡散くさい魔術のようなものだと思っていましたが、本当は科学的な現象だというのが良くわかりました。仕事で疲れた時などにすると、リラックスでき、頭がすっきりして元気回復に役立ちます。暗示もじゅ文やまじないのように謎めいたものかと思いこんでいましたが、案外簡単だったので自分なりに作って実行しています。少しずつですが、最近自分の行動がその影響を受けて変わってきているのが実感できます。これからもっと効果が現われるのが楽しみです。ストレスのある方にお勧めです。

催眠術ってあまり良くないイメージがあったけれど、この本を読んで考えが変わりました。今、自己催眠を実践中です。めちゃくちゃリラックスできるし、本当に自分が変われそうな気がします。がんばって続けるつもりです。買って良かった！
