"For our generation and many that will follow, Mars is the New World," writes Zubrin. This book went to press serendipitously, just as NASA was making its startling if heavily-qualified announcement that simple life may have once existed on the fourth rock from the sun. Zubrin doesn't spend an enormous amount of time arguing why Mars exploration is desirable -- we all want astronauts to go there, don't we? -- but rather devotes the bulk of this book explaining how it can happen on a sensible, bare-bones budget of $20-30 billion and a "travel light and live off the land" philosophy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Time to go, 2000/11/13
Does anyone remember Apollo? We remember Columbus but have no understanding of what we as a race where like when danger and risk were part of our drive for survival. We've nearly lost sight of what space might mean for man, but this book shows that it is not a matter of technological hurdles that is stopping us from establishing extra-terrestrial life, but political and social attitudes, lack of vision and a short-sightedness for solutions to the earth's problems --- the inability to think big. This book shows we are ready to go! Detailed science (real science) and vision, just those elements that get lost in the political process.

4.0 out of 5 stars
 Robert Zubrinの"The Case for Mars"(1996)の翻訳です。
