ジャケ買いでしたが。

衝撃的な場面から始まるこの作品。
だけど、
どこまでもまっすぐな展開で
どこまでも真っ白な世界観。
最後には涙が一粒。胸が熱くなりました。

新人賞だから、１７歳だから、など
そういうのを忘れて作品に没頭しました。

飾りが少ない作品なので、
派手好きな人には物足りないかもしれないけれど。

素晴らしい作品でした。

世界設定としては悪く言えば「良くある」感じでしたが、
主人公たちの置かれた状況が特殊で
「こういう考えは普段は出来ないだろうな」、
という面白さがあって良かったなと思います。

展開も予想とは外れた方向へ進んでくれるので
良い意味で「裏切ってくれる本」です。

ただ偶然が重なる場面が多かったことで
展開が少し短絡になった部分があったのが残念。

ストーリー全体として引き込まれ一気に読める1冊。
作者に今後の期待をこめて☆4つです。

素晴らしい表紙です！

そして、物語は表紙同様の淡い色調の中で展開していく。雪に降り込められた世界、永遠に続く冷たい世界で、救いのない現実から逃れるように彷徨う姉弟。ハルカとユキジという 日本風の名前なのに、舞台は息苦しい中世ヨーローッパのような感触。神官への恐怖と野垂れ死にへの恐怖に苛まれる二人の日々の情景は胸が痛む・・・。

辛い展開の中でかすかな光明となっているのが書名にもなっている「楽園」。切ないまでの思いが込められた「至上の存在」をもとめる二人の姿が、実に淡々と、古典的日本映画の如き静謐な雰囲気の中に描かれていく。いまだ幼さも残る二人の、危うさと可憐さがないまぜとなった微妙な雰囲気のま まに・・・。

教会に「支配」された一種異様とも言える世界ですが、しっかりと描かれていて安心して読めます。ただ、雪に対する恐怖や日々の糧を得る困難さなどは余り感じられず意外とリアリ ティーがないのが惜しい。良くも悪くも表紙そのもののストーリーですね。結末は、ほのかに明るいけれどハッピーエンドとも言えません。これは 続刊を期待したいですね。「楽園」の存在と「雪」の謎に対する二人の「答え」を読みたいところです。

後半になるほど感じるのは、救いのないお話だ・・・ということ。何だか今の若者達の前に広がる、暗い未来を暗示しているようで辛い。けれども可憐な二人の様子を見ていると、「頑張れ・・・」とつぶやきたくなる・・・そんなお話です・・・。
