仕事でかなり疲れているときにふと書店で手にして、これはと思い買って一読。古書店や古本屋にまつわる業界本や探訪記が好きでこれまでにもいろいろ読んできましたが、北尾トロ氏の何とも屈託のない自由自在な「古書の旅」には「ああこんな生き方もいいなー」と思わされること頻りで、変な話この本を読んで随分癒されたような思いがしました。

「筑豊の古本埋蔵量はかつての石炭並み」（29頁）。
「仕入れた本をただ並べて売るだけでは、どこでもやっていけなくなっている」（76頁）。

古書肆や古本屋巡りの好きな疲れたリーマンにお勧めの一書です。（なお、文庫版には「文庫化記念おまけの旅　藤沢周平をたずねて山形・庄内へ」というあとがき代わりの一編が新たに収録されています。）

このいそがしいご時世に、セドリ旅行というなんともいえない優雅な体験記が本屋さんに並んでいました。

うらやましくおもい手に取るとやはり、ためになる話や大もうけの話、人殺しの話などどこにもなく、どこへ行ってどんな本があったかという、どーでもいっちゃどーでもいい話がつづられています。

のんびり本を読みながら旅をする。
ただただ本が好きな人にとって、サイコーの贅沢。

北尾トロ氏といえば、裁判傍聴マニアのライターと思っていたが、実は、ネットで古本屋でもあったのですね。しかも、かなり楽しそう。裁判長！ここは懲役4年でどうすかというタイトルに引かれて電子本を読んだのは4年くらい前だったでしょうか。それから、ずいぶんご無沙汰だったのですが、突然、そのタイトルに引かれ、読んでみたら、古本収集の楽しい紀行文でした。出てくる本は、知らない本ばかり、唯一、読んだのは、林望「薩摩スチューデント西へ」くらい。あとは、黒木香の本の名前が何回が出てくる。いまの４０代後半から５０代には、黒木香はいろいろな意味で懐かしい。
まずは、気楽に、土地土地の風景を楽しみながら、北尾氏の古本収集のうん蓄を聞きながら古本屋めぐりの旅できる楽しいエッセイです。
