読んでみてこれからの日本の将来のことが心配になってしまったりしましたが、読んでみて自分の生き方、若者、これからの社会について気付かされることが多く、買ってよかったと思います。題材は難しいものが多いですが、文章は読みやすいので、気持ちよく読めます。

この本を読んで実践しても別にお金とか財産の蔵は建たないと思います。でも人々に共有された知識の蔵は建つかも。世界に共有され、自由に使える知識(オープンソース、Linux、哲学等々)というものはお金よりもある意味価値があると思います。

著者のブログを編集して書籍化したもの。時事問題への言及は多いが現実的な提言というよりも、週刊誌や月刊誌よりももうちょっと違う視点で現実社会を捉えたい、でも現代思想や哲学なんか難しい、と思っている人にはちょうどいい文章をいつも提供してくれる。
個人の権利、機会の平等、プライバシーの保護、勝者と敗者を明確に階層化するこの社会の行く末がいかに味気ないものか、同時にその流れがいかに止め難いものか、冷静に分析する。
個人的には第一章の「貴族と大衆」が読みごたえがある。
現代社会の一見平等に見えるメリトクラシー（実力主義、能力主義）が不平等の是正どころか、逆に階層化を一層押し進めるような危機的状況をいかに生み出しているのかを論じる。そしてオルテガが予言したような本格的な大衆社会の到来のなかで、それでも目指すべき共同体のよりよい市民（オルテガのいう「貴族」）のあり方について提案している。
他の文章も、軽い語り口ながら、常に根源的な、はっとする問いを投げかける著者らしさは十分に現れています。

「なかなか鋭い視点だな」と思わせたり、「何を言っているのかわからないよ」と感じさせたりする話がごちゃ混ぜになっています。
ここにレビューを書くために本書を読みながらいろいろと考えていた感想が、「あとがき」に著者自身の手によってしっかり書き込まれていました。著者は自分自身でわかっていながら、こういう文章を書いている確信犯であることがよく分かりました。
同意できないこと、理解できないこともありましたが、すとんと腑に落ちるものも多く、総合的には面白い本だといえるでしょう。
