　冬の狐こと、骨董旗師の冬狐堂の女主人、宇佐見陶子のシリーズ文庫最新作です(シリーズの長編は講談社から「狐罠」「狐闇」と文庫でも出ています。こちらの文春文庫の方は短編連作集ですが、主人公などは同じなので同一シリーズとして取り扱うほうがいいでしょう)。
　骨董の世界において、自らの店舗を持たず、競り市や地方の倉等から己れの「目利き」を頼りに骨董品を仕入れまた別の業者や客に転売することで成り立つ旗師は、常に商品をまわし続けること、またおかしな商品を仕入れたり売らないことで信用を勝ち得続けなければならない過酷な職業。ましてや普通の業界と違って、お互いがお互いを騙そうとしたり、出自自体がわからない品が行き来する暗い世界。　
　そんな中で生きる陶子も、いつしか目利きとして名が売れていきます。　
　それだけに時には腕を試され、はめられそうになる時もあります。この作品でも、彼女は目利きであるが故に逆にそうした罠にはまり危地に陥るのですが、、、果たして彼女はその危地を脱することができるのか。
　本作には「倣雛心中」「苦い狐」「瑠璃の誓い」「黒髪のクピド」と四つの短編が収められていますがどれも秀逸です。なかなかに厳しく張りつめた展開の作品が多く、息をつめて読んでしまいますが、それも心地よい疲れです。本作では友人の横尾硝子が、事件の中であるときはワトスンとして、あるときはパートナーとして、あるときは事件の当事者の一人として大きく絡んできますが、そのときどきの二人の会話やお互いへの気遣いや連帯が非常に強く描かれていてそのあたりも読みどころの一つでしょう。　

　おすすめできる一冊です。５の４です。

　2005年に出た単行本の文庫化。
　旗師・冬狐堂を主人公とした短編集。
　「倣雛心中」「苦い狐」「瑠璃の契り」「黒髪のクピド」の４篇が収められている。
　張りつめたような雰囲気は相変わらず。読んでいて、つい緊張してしまうほどだ。展開はキツいし、結末も苦い。他人への不信感が芽生えてしまうような本だ。
　それでも魅力的なのは不思議。
　ミステリとしては、いまひとつ。骨董に、どうやって人間の憎しみとか悲しみを埋め込んでいくかというところに主眼がある。

店舗を持たない骨董商・旗師として
厳しくも魅力的な世界を渡り歩く陶子のシリーズ短編集。

商品の質は良いのに、幾度も返品される人形を同業者から預かり
その謎解きをする「倣雛心中」
陶子が美大生時代の同級生の画集が送られてくることに
端をなした「苦い狐」
博多で手に入れた瑠璃の杯を、陶子の友人のカメラマン・硝子が
珍しい執着をみせたところから広がる「瑠璃の契り」
元夫に頼まれ手に入れた、瞳孔がひらいた人間そっくりに造られた人形と
その後行方不明になった彼をおう「黒髪のクピド」の四作が収録されています。

今回、陶子は冒頭から
旗師の商売道具である目に、病を得てしまいます。
そのことは隠しきれず、陶子を試すような同業者の罠もあり…。

友人の硝子や知り合いの骨董商、元夫などとの関係や会話も
自立した厳しさと暖かさがない交ぜになって魅力的です。
他のシリーズの登場人物が登場することも多いこのシリーズ、
今回は「親不孝通りディテクティブ」から一人、登場しています。
