吉田 修一
1968年生まれ。高校まで長崎で過ごし上京。法政大学経営学部卒業。97年、「最後の息子」で第84回文学界新人賞を受賞。同作が芥川賞候補作となる。その後も「破片」「グリンピース」「Water」「突風」等の作品を次々と発表。2002年、『パレード』で山本周五郎賞、「パーク・ライフ」で第127回芥川賞を受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

表題作と「flowers」の二作品。
強い衝撃をうける作品ではないのだけれど、読後感は悪くなかった。
終わり方は、いい感じ。
舞台となる日比谷公園は、非常によく知っている場所なのでその分親近感が沸いた。
「flowers」の方は、あまり感じるものがなかったなぁ。
昔より芥川賞作品から受ける衝撃ってもんが小さいような気がするんだけど、これって、読む側が年取ったからなのかなぁ？
鈍感になってきてる？

読んだ後に何も残らないという芥川賞作品の伝統を見事に踏襲した作品。
作者は芥川賞を相当意識したんではないかということが、読んでいて痛いほど伝わってくる。
芥川賞とはこんな作品ですという見本だな。


最近評判のいい「悪人」は未読だが、これを読んだ当時（４年前）には、
この作者に可能性は微塵も感じられなかった。

著書の[パレード]に、何となく惹かれる部分があったので、表題作[パーク･ライフ]が、同じような感覚をもてそうで購入しました。
普通に、さらっと、主人公とスタバ女の距離感は、心地良かったし、同じように、公園で、過ごしてみたい気がしました。何も起こらないし、気分の高揚もないけど、読み物として好きでした。
ただもう一つの収録作[flowers]は、苦手です。淡々と感情が無い様に人を欺いて？みたり、相手の領域に入らないのは受け取れるけれど、入り込んで、なお知らぬふりで日常を過ごせる感じは読んでるだけでも、嫌な感じがしました。なんで、これを書かなければならないんだろう？私が鈍感なのか、なんか嫌な気分で読み終えました。
これにこそ、文庫特有の解説が欲しかったけど、無くって残念。
