犬は、人の言うことを聞くのではなく、犬に導かれて人が動くという、盲導犬のすばらしい一生を、
クイールという一匹の盲導犬と、そのお世話になった方との話で綴られている。
盲導犬を育てるのも大変ですが、みんなが目的を持って前に進んでいることが分かる。
モノクロ（白灰黒）の写真も、思いを伝えてくれる。

　2年ほど前、NHKで同名のテレビドラマがあった。犬の里親、盲導犬の訓練士、視覚障害者のそれぞれの想いと犬との絆に素直に感動したのを覚えているが、本書はその原作である。
　半分が写真、半分が文という体裁で、物語というより、クイールの思い出のアルバム、といった印象である。文章が少ない分、ストーリーそのものに感情移入していくのはやや辛いが、それを秋元氏の深みのあるモノクロ写真が補って余りある。最後のページに、クイールの仔犬の頃のあどけない写真を配したのは、演出としては少々あざといと思いながらも、きっちり泣かされた。
　ともあれ、なかなかいい本である。

『盲導犬』というと少し特別な場所にいるような
そんな感じがしていました。
でもこの本と出会った事で捕らえ方は変わった気がします。
人と共にお互いに足りないものを補い合って成長していく
そしてあたたかく見守られながら息を引き取る
その一生にいつしか泣いている自分がいた･･･

犬と人間はお互いにお互いを必要とするパートナーなんだなってこの本を読んで思いました。だから対等なんだって。
