5年以上前、この本が単行本で出版された当時に買って読んだ記憶がある。そのときも内容に共感、同感したが今読み直してもわが身にひきくらべて身につまされる部分もあった。私も１０年以上前は買物依存症に近かった。家族もいたしつきあっている人もいて世間的には恵まれすぎるくらい恵まれている仕事にもついていた。でも仕事や恋愛からくる不安で物は家に溢れていながらとにかく物を買い捲っていた。今となれば「不安で寂しかった私」の残骸がまだ家を占領し圧迫している。精神はその人の外見、生活すべて外に現れるものに影響するのがよくわかる。ここに出てくる依存症の女たちはきっと善良すぎるくらい善良で、真面目で自分のことより人のことを優先して思いやる繊細で傷つきやすい人々なのだと思う。依存の対象は物だけには限らないが、その必死さ、一生懸命さゆえの空回りがすべてその根源にあるような気がする。最後に依存症は予防できると題した章で７つの処方箋が出されているがこれらの中で一番難しいのは抑圧の正体を見極めて悩みや苦しみ、寂しさ、悲しさという感情に恐れず立ち向かっていくことだと思う。ここに例としてあがっているのは顕著なほんの一例かとは思うけれど精神的に弱くなっている現代人にあってはひとりになれないのは女だけでなく男だってたくさん居そうである。一過性にいずれ私の目の前から消える本だと思っていたが今回読み直してもうしばらく本棚に留めておこうと思ったことが意外だった。結果星５つ。

最初は軽い気持ちで購入しましたが、大げさな話しなどはなく、どの女性のお話しも、身近にいそうな普通の人が、どんどん依存していく姿に、私は、他人事ではないぞ・・と思いながら、依存してしまうことの怖さを忘れるころに読み返している本です。

これが出た当初98年、思い切りこれらの症状だった。
今ならばこれに「携帯依存」「ネット依存」「メール依存」
などもでてくるだろう。
それはやはり「ひとりになれない」という淋しさが根底にある。
なぜそう思うのか。
この本ではそのような愛情飢餓について触れてある。
買い物依存、電話依存、恋愛依存...
見渡してみれば結構当てはまる人も多いはず。

自分の、まわりの心の悲鳴、きこえてきませんか？
