これはもう、指導書と言うよりも哲学書でしょうね。信念を越えた哲学。故北島忠治、明治大学ラグビー部監督と比較された名指揮官の人生経験を背景にした凄い一冊ですね。

ラグビーと言うものが、ここまで奥深いモノなのかとつくづく感じさせられる本でした。前に行く明治に対抗し、揺さぶりなる展開志向を考え出した頭脳と言い、近代ラグビーの礎を作った男の凄まじい理論力が凝縮されている。しかし、一見してみると理論派のシンキングラグビーのように聞こえるが、根底にはかの有名な「泣き虫先生」山口先生を築き上げた、そこにいる者への「絶対なる愛情と信頼」が置かれている点は見逃せなかった。この本は不世出の本かもしれません。「大西イズム」がなんたるかを満喫でき、非常に奥の深い一冊でした。！！凄い！！

この本は，”スポーツの本質”もっといえば，”人生における勝負の本質”について，大西鉄之祐というスポーツ指導者というよりも，むしろ哲学者の趣のある一人物を通して描写してある．

　ラグビーでの出来事を中心に描いてあるが，その内容は，人生の全てに通ずるであろう．政治的にも，経済的にも見通しの明るくないなかで，スポーツに関係する人だけでなく，サラリーマンにとっても，非常に生きる力や指針を与えてくれる1冊になるだろう．”知と熱”まさにこのタイトルが，この本の本質を端的に著している．

日本ラグビーの不世出の指導者を描くノンフィクション。
筆者は、教え子であり、コーチとしても後進に当たるが、
大西鐵之祐という人物を必要以上に美化することもなく描き出している。
それだけに、リアルな人物を描き出している。
