　とにかく読み物としての面白さもかなり高く、1日で読み切ってしまった。 　軽妙でいて薄っぺらではなく、絶妙のバランス感覚が素晴らしい。 　
　本書を読むとき、あなたが超能力ビリーバーならば恐怖を感じ、否定派ならば困惑し、知識あるSkepticならば腹を抱えて大笑いし、やがて事態の深刻さを憂うであろう。
　スターゲイト計画をはじめ、軍が超能力研究に力を入れてきた流れを、当時の人物達へのインタビューから綴る内容は、貴重な情報を提供してくれる。 時期も、ヒッピー以降から2004年までが主眼であり、軍部が中心だが、その周りにはユリゲラー、SRV、コートニー・ブラウンやヘブンズゲート事件、9・11などが配置されている。（しかも安直な陰謀論本やビリーバー本ではない！）
　軍が超能力系のテクノロジーに期待を寄せる背景に、ベトナム戦争のトラウマがあり、軍部もまた大衆側のニューエイジ運動に感化された人材が大勢いたようである。平和的な非殺傷兵器の導入を目指して提案された平和的な提案。。。結果としてグロテスクな方向へゆがめられていくが。
　いずれにしても、この分野に興味と、ちょっとした知識がある―たとえばSRVを信奉している人は無知とする―ならば、読む価値があるだろう。やや賛同しかねる記述もあるが面白い。

私の好きなゴルゴ13「テレパス」で、KGBが超能力の研究をしているという
話を読んだ事があります。
やはり、アメリカでもやっていましたね！
店頭で見かけて思わず購入。

文章にはやや癖があり、話が地点・時間共に飛ぶので少々分かりづらい...
嘘でも本当でもどちらでもいいですわ。私には。

かなり眉唾な話も後半特に混じってきます。
イラクで行われた捕虜拷問写真の事件は記憶に新しいと思います。
あの事件さえも絡んでくるのですね...

4.0 out of 5 stars BBCのエイプリルフール企画のような（むしろそうであってほしい）, 2007/7/13
センセーショナルな邦題とは異なり、原題は「山羊を見つめる男たち」。山羊を見つめて殺そうという超能力部隊の企画の話から本書は始まります。その後、インタビューを続けるにつれて、出るわ出るわ、遠隔視からサブリミナル、テロの予知等々、米軍が本気でやろうとしていたバカバカしいネタの数々に陰謀論、終末待望論がからんで、一種スラプスティックな状況が見えてきます。これが世界一の大国の実態かよと困り笑いをしながら読み進めていくうち、アグレイブ刑務所の話あたりになると、だんだん笑えなくなってきて（発端がベトナム戦争に疲れた軍隊がニューエイジムーブメントに触発されて「平和的非殺傷兵器」を作るというあたりだったのが、単なる兵器としての心理戦になってきたからでしょう）、最後はあきれるやら、ぞっとするやら。
著者はさすがイギリス人だけあって、常に疑いの眼を持ちつつ冷静かつユーモアのあるスタンスを最後まで貫いてくれるので、スケプティックの皆さんにはお薦め。（インタビューの中身がどこまでほんとかも疑いながら読むのは必須）
ちなみに最近超能力捜査で有名な「ジョー・マクモニーグル」のエピソードには爆笑。そんなもんですよ、みなさん。
