5.0 out of 5 stars 宗教の本ではなく、ドキュメンタリーである, 2003/8/25
手にとった時はちょっと分厚くて、歴史の本みたいなもんだし、読みきれるかなぁ？と思ったのですが、読みはじめてみると文体も堅苦しくなく宗教色も薄かったので抵抗なく読めました。これだけ崇められて育った人が奢ることなく普通に育ったのは奇跡ではないでしょうか。

現ダライ・ラマがどのように１３世の生まれ変わりと認定されたかに始まり、ラサのポタラでのある意味閉ざされた豪勢な生活、中国の侵略、そしてインドへの亡命が、わかりやすく、かつ恨みつらみを綴ることなく書かれています。これほど厳しい人生を送りながらその原因となった人たち全てに対してポジティブなことを言えるそのオプティミズムと心の広さに驚きます。
イラクやチェチェンが注目を集める中静かに弾圧を受けてきたチベッ!ト。もっと多くの人たちに知って欲しいです。

ダライラマ来日の報を聞き、手にとって見ました。
なんとなくえらい人らいしい、くらいの意識しかありませんでしたが、
ダライラマの生い立ちと神秘的な化身の認定に始まり、
宮殿での生活から、中共政府の侵略によってチベットが悲惨な運命をたどり、
過酷な中で非暴力、慈悲の精神でチベットの回復に奔走する現在に至るまで、
泣きながら一気に読み進んでしまいました。
現実の苦境の中でも、人間的葛藤の中でも、ひたすら体現される平和への実践が
宗教や国境を超えた精神的指導者と言われる所以なのでしょう。
このような人物を輩出する、
チベット仏教に代表されるようなチベットの文化の深遠さにも引き込まれます。
自分の悩みなんてたいしたもんでもないか…と思えるドラマチック・ノンフィクションです。

1990年に書かれた自伝である。チベットの片田舎の少年が、ダライラマ13世の「生まれ代わり」として見出される。6歳から僧侶としての修行を積み、彼の人生は時代に翻弄されつつも、どんどん広がってゆく。中国との外交駆引きや亡命道中の苦難等々、息詰まる見せ場が多い。なんと言ってもその時々の苦難（問題）をどのようなプロセスで判断していったのかが克明に記されている。「どのような概念で物事を判断するのか」というフレームワークのヒントが書かれている。またアジアの現代史を知る上で、特に中国の外交スタンスの変遷を知る上でも必読である。その他各国要人との会見のエピソードや印象が随所に出てきて、彼独自の視点が面白い（例：小平はミカンの皮を几帳面にゆっくりと剥いていた）。この本は!色々な読み方ができると思う。お買い得の1冊である。
