イギリスの食事に関する筆者の視点が楽しい。美味しいか不味いかは所詮主観的、習慣的な判断によるものだということを確認しつつ、イギリスの文化において「あの食事」や「あの飲食文化」がどういうものなのかを独自の視点で説明しています。そして、何をどう食べると「おいしく」食べられるのかなどの体験談も豊富。フィッシュ・アンド・チップスの記述を読んで、おもわず食べたくなりました。

この本はそれこそ5，6回読み返してもあきない本です。アメリカ英語・アメリカ文化に触れてきた私にとって、この本はイギリスってそうなんだと、新たな発見があったといえるでしょう。ちょっとしたイギリス英語（米語との違い）が書いてあったり、軽いタッチでちょっと外国に行った気分に浸りたいときには良い本だと思います。
気分が重~くなるような本は読みたくないって時ないですか？
そんなときお勧めです。

もともとイギリス車党で、イギリスに興味があったので手に取った本。この本を読んでから思わずイギリスに一人旅をしてしまいました。興味深い視点から軽妙な語り口で書かれたこの本のおかげで短い時間の中でたくさんの気づき・発見を得ることができました。イギリスに興味のある方は一つの切り口として楽しめると思いますよ。
