1999年版　このミス2位（1位レディージョーカー、3位理由、4位屍鬼、というすごい年！！）
2000年文春ベスト10　1位

スペイン・フラメンコ・ギター　といえば作者の3点セットと言っていいくらい得意の分野であるが、おそらく、この作品がベストだろう。
個人的には、本作、「百舌の叫ぶ夜」。「カディスの赤い星」が作者のベスト３だと思っている。
本作品を初めて読んだときの驚愕は忘れることができない。まず自分の記憶を疑い、次に誤植を疑ってしまったほどである。しかしながら、この作品をこのトリックのみで語ることはできない。事故で失った原爆を秘密保持のために回収しようとするアメリカと、秘密を盗もうとするソ連、そしてはからずも巻き込まれてしまった日本人ギタリストとスペインの小さな村の人々という、わかりやすい設定の中で、魅力的な登場人物を登場させ、長い作品ながら読者に飽きさせない。作者の積み上げた技の詰まった、円熟味のある作品といえよう。

残念ながら、この作品以降、突き抜けた作品がない。今後の作品にも期待したい。

スペインの地方都市に起きた爆撃機の墜落事故。落ちた水爆を巡る現地での様様な事件、、そこに日本人のフラメンコ・ギターリストが明るく青いスペインの空と海。３０年の後の思いがけない結末、、日本とスペインを結ぶスケールの大きなドラマ展開、、一気に読んでしまいました。

終盤のある場面、、何これ？印刷ミス？ と思いました。
何度も読み返しましたが、謎語りを読み終わるまでわけがわからず、呆然。
決して映画化できない作品、、、ともいえると思います。
掟破りのスーパー活字エンターテインメント。
